Here are 30 Christmas party games with the rules in one sentence each, sorted by the party you are throwing: classic games with a Christmas twist, games for the office party, family games for all ages, a short 18+ drinking round and games you play on one phone. 30 Christmas party games and how to play them
Classic party games with a Christmas twist
7- Christmas Charades: act out a Christmas film, song or character without a word while your team guesses against a one minute timer.
- Finish the Lyric: sing the first line of a Christmas song and stop. The first person to sing the next line correctly scores, and humming the tune does not count.
- Christmas Pictionary: draw things like 'Rudolph with a cold' or 'Santa stuck in the chimney' on a big pad. No letters, no numbers, sixty seconds.
- Who Am I, Christmas edition: a sticky note on every forehead with a name like Buddy the Elf, Kevin McCallister or Mrs Claus. Ask yes or no questions until you get yours.
- Badly Described Films: describe a Christmas film as badly as you can, like 'family forgets a child, child sets traps' for Home Alone. First to name it scores.
- Christmas Trivia: teams of three or four answer rounds on films, songs and traditions, while the host keeps the answers on a phone.
- Christmas Categories: draw a letter and fill in festive categories like a film, a food on the table and something under the tree before the timer runs out.
Games for the office Christmas party
6- White Elephant: everyone brings one wrapped gift, draws a number and either opens a new gift or steals one already opened.
- Snowball Fight: everyone writes a harmless question on paper, crumples it and throws it across the room. Pick up a snowball, read it out and answer it.
- Office Party Bingo: cards with moments like 'someone mentions next year's budget' or 'a manager attempts a dance move'. First full line shouts Bingo.
- Guess the Baby Photo: collect a childhood Christmas photo from everyone in advance, number them on a wall and let people write down who is who.
- Ugly Sweater Awards: secret ballots for most lights, best handmade sweater and the one most likely to be seen from space. The winners get a paper crown.
- Two Truths and a Lie, holiday edition: tell three Christmas memories, one of them invented. The room votes on the lie before you reveal it.
Family games for a Christmas party
6- Pass the Parcel: wrap a small prize in many layers of paper with a sweet or a silly task in each layer. When the music stops, unwrap one layer.
- Snowman Wrap: teams of three wrap one teammate in toilet paper to make a snowman in two minutes. Add a paper carrot nose, and the grandparents judge.
- Cookie Face: put a cookie on your forehead and get it into your mouth using only your face. No hands, sixty seconds.
- Candy Cane Hunt: hide candy canes around the house. Red ones are worth one point, and one hidden green one is worth five.
- Christmas Story Chain: one sentence each around the room. The story must end up including Santa, a lost shoe and the family dog.
- Pin the Nose on Rudolph: draw Rudolph on a big sheet, blindfold the player, spin them three times and let them stick on a red paper nose.
Christmas drinking games (18+)
5For adults who opted in. A sip is a small sip, water counts just as much, and anyone can pass.
- Christmas Kings Cup: play the classic rules, but each king adds a festive rule, like speaking only in carol lyrics until the next king.
- Christmas Film Drinking Game: pick one film and three triggers, like every scream or every trap in Home Alone. A small sip each time.
- Twelve Days Relay: sing The Twelve Days of Christmas around the circle, one line each. Every verse counts back down to the partridge, so lose the order and you sip.
- Never Have I Ever, Christmas edition: 'Never have I ever regifted a present' or 'opened a gift early and wrapped it again'.
- Naughty or Nice: draw a confession question about your Christmases past. Answer honestly or take a sip instead.
Christmas party games on a phone
6- Imposter: everyone sees the secret word except the imposter. One clue each, then vote out whoever is faking it.
- The Bomb: the phone shows a category, you say an answer and pass it on before the hidden fuse runs out.
- The Quiz: the host shares a pin code, up to 16 guests answer trivia on their own phones, and the podium shows who wins the office.
- Guess the Song: a real music clip plays and the first one to pick the right title scores.
- Most Likely To: read a question, everyone points at once, and the person with the most fingers on them owns it.
- Finger Picker: everyone puts a finger on the screen and the app picks who opens the next present or gives the toast.
How to plan games for a Christmas party
Three or four games are plenty for one evening. The trick is the order: something easy while people arrive, one big game in the middle, and something calm once the food has landed.
- Start with a game people can join lateWho Am I or Office Party Bingo work while guests are still taking off their coats, because nobody has to wait for a round to end.
- Play the big game before dinnerWhite Elephant, Christmas Trivia or The Quiz need everyone's attention. Run them while the room is still full of energy.
- Go quieter after foodFinish the Lyric, Badly Described Films and Snowball Fight work sitting down with a full plate.
- Keep the 18+ round for lastIf the drinking games happen at all, they belong late, after the families and the colleagues who want to go home have gone.
| Your party | Start with | Big game | Wind down with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Office party, people who barely know each other | Office Party Bingo | White Elephant | Snowball Fight |
| Family Christmas with kids and grandparents | Candy Cane Hunt | Pass the Parcel | Christmas Story Chain |
| Friends, adults only | Badly Described Films | Christmas Trivia | Never Have I Ever, Christmas edition |
| Big group of 20 or more | Guess the Baby Photo | The Quiz with a pin code | Ugly Sweater Awards |
| Small table of four to six | Finish the Lyric | Imposter | Two Truths and a Lie |
A Christmas quiz where everyone plays on their own phone
In Dronk's The Quiz, the host shares a 4 digit pin code and up to 16 guests answer on their own phones at the same time. The fastest correct answer scores most, and the podium settles which table wins the office party.

Three Christmas party games explained properly
Most of the games above explain themselves in one line. These three are worth a closer look, because a small rule decides whether they fly or fall flat.
Finish the Lyric
Pick songs everyone half knows rather than ones everyone knows by heart. Sing the opening line of the verse, not the chorus, because the chorus of Last Christmas or Jingle Bells is too easy. Play in two teams and give the point to the first team that sings the next line together. Bonus point if they can carry on to the end of the verse.
Snowball Fight
This is the best icebreaker for an office party, because the questions are anonymous and nobody is put on the spot. Hand out paper and ask for light questions, like 'What is the worst gift you have ever received?' or 'Which Christmas film do you secretly hate?'. Throw for ten seconds, then everyone picks up the nearest snowball and answers it out loud. Anyone can throw theirs back in and pick another.
Badly Described Films
Everyone writes three Christmas films described as badly as possible on slips of paper. Elf becomes 'grown man in tights goes looking for his dad in New York', and The Grinch becomes 'green neighbour hates noise, steals everything, changes his mind'. Read them out one by one, and the first person to shout the right title keeps the slip. Most slips wins.
Questions people ask
What are good Christmas party games for adults?
Badly Described Films, Christmas Trivia, Imposter and White Elephant work for any adult crowd. For friends who know each other well, add Never Have I Ever, Christmas edition, or Naughty or Nice later in the evening.
What games can you play at an office Christmas party?
White Elephant, Office Party Bingo, Snowball Fight and Guess the Baby Photo are safe with colleagues, because nobody has to share anything personal. A live quiz where everyone answers on their own phone works well for big teams.
What are good family games for a Christmas party?
Pass the Parcel, Snowman Wrap, Cookie Face, Candy Cane Hunt and Pin the Nose on Rudolph work from age four to ninety. Christmas Charades and Finish the Lyric are great when the kids are a bit older.
What are funny Christmas party games?
Snowman Wrap, Cookie Face and Badly Described Films get the biggest laughs, because the fun comes from watching other people try. Ugly Sweater Awards is funny too, as long as the categories are kind.
How many games do you need for a Christmas party?
Three or four games for an evening, each lasting 15 to 30 minutes. Plan one easy starter, one big game, one calm game for after dinner and keep a spare in case a game falls flat.
Can you play Christmas party games without alcohol?
Yes. Only the 18+ group on this page involves drinking, and even those games work with a soft drink, water or a small forfeit instead of a sip.
