The best beer apps, sorted by what you want
There is no single best beer app, because they do different jobs. Untappd is the best beer rating app, BeerMenus finds where a beer is on tap, BeerBuddy pings your friends when you have a drink, and Dronk puts the night out with friends and 16 party games in one iPhone app.
Every card says in one line what the app does. Switch kinds on and off to fit what you need.

A beer log with pictures
Every glass becomes a polaroid
Snap your glass in Dronk and the app cuts it out like a sticker and prints a polaroid with the time and the place on the map. It is the easiest beer log there is: no searching for the brewery, no score. Water and coffee count just the same, and the next day the night is ready as a video.
Best beer rating app: Untappd
Untappd is the biggest beer rating app by far: about 12 million users and 4.9 stars from more than 215,000 ratings in the US App Store. You check in a beer, score it, add a photo and a place, and earn badges for trying new styles. Since late 2025 it also covers wine, spirits, cocktails and other packaged drinks.
Best for: anyone who wants to know which beers they liked and what to try next. The free version does the job. Untappd Insiders adds more stats for $5.99 a month or $54.99 a year.
What about RateBeer and BeerAdvocate?
RateBeer, the oldest rating site, closed on 1 February 2025. BeerAdvocate still has ratings and reviews on its website, but we couldn't find a current BeerAdvocate app in the US App Store. For a beer rating app on your phone, Untappd is the one left standing.
Best beer tracker app
A beer tracker can mean two things. If you want to track which beers you have tried, so you never order the disappointing IPA twice, Untappd's history does that well, and BeerMenus also lets you log beers to find your favourites again.
If you want to remember the night, the bars and who you were with, Dronk keeps it as a map of polaroids. It does not keep a list of beers or count anything, it keeps the places and the moments.
Best apps to find beer
BeerMenus
Up to date beer menus for bars, restaurants and shops near you. Follow a beer and get a notification when it turns up nearby, or follow a bar and see when its menu changes. Best for: hunting a specific beer.
PubPass
A craft beer passport for US cities. Members get deals such as $1 beers or buy one get one at participating bars and breweries, and the bartender stamps the app. Best for: exploring new taprooms in your city.
Tavour
Not a store but daily drops of limited craft beers from more than 600 small US breweries. You add beers to a crate and ship it when you are ready. Best for: beer you can't find locally, if you live in the US.
Best beer apps for a night out with friends
BeerBuddy
Post a photo of your drink and your friends get a notification, with a live map of who is out and quick cheers reactions. It is big, with 4.9 stars from more than 114,000 ratings, and on both iPhone and Android. Best for: a group that wants a constant feed of each other's nights.
Dronk
A party game app with a map for the night out. Snap your glass and you show up on the map for the friends you pick, only while you're out. Friends can send a cheers or a come over, and when you are all at one table there are 16 games, from Imposter to The Bomb. The next day the night is ready as a video. iPhone only. Best for: bar crawls and nights where you want something to play.
Beer With Me
The small Swedish app that started the idea: a big drink button that tells your friends you are out, and a map of who is at the pub. It is on iPhone and Android. Best for: keeping it very simple.
The beer app for the whole night
Snap your glass in Dronk and you land on the map for the friends you pick. See which bar everyone is in, send a cheers or a come over, and start a game when the group is together. It only shows while you're out, and you can hide from everyone anytime.

Find and buy beer
3- BeerMenus: live beer menus for bars and shops nearby, with alerts when a beer you follow is close.

Beer games for the table
None of the classic beer apps have games anymore. If the night needs one, these work with a single phone on the table:
- Imposter: everyone sees the secret word except one player. Clues go round, then the group votes.
- Most Likely To: everyone points at the person who fits the question best.
- Pub golf: every bar is a hole with a par. Free scorecard on our site.
- 30 drinking games: the rules in one line each.
