What is the $20 draft?

The $20 draft (also called the 20 dollar draft, muted draft, budget draft or $20 auction) is a two-player party game from TikTok. Both players get an imaginary $20. A category is chosen, for example "the dream backyard" or "the perfect restaurant menu", and items from that category come up one at a time. You bid against each other, or in the muted version you silently take or pass, until the money runs out. At the end each player shows what they bought and everyone decides who built the better result.

It went viral in summer 2026 through creators like @waterboyzshow (restaurant draft, drink auction) and @9kamz (bedroom draft), with millions of views per video, and TikTok now lists more than 55 million posts under "20 dollar draft ideas". The appeal is simple: it is fast, it works in any category, and the argument about who won is half the fun.

How does the $20 draft work?

These are the rules most creators use, and the ones the Dronk app follows.

1. Pick a category

   The backyard, the yacht, the office, a restaurant menu, a football team. Both players must know the category before the first item.

2. Everyone gets $20

   In the app it is 20 coins. Coins are points, not real money. You cannot go over budget.

3. Items go under the hammer one at a time

   The app draws 10 items from the category. In the TikTok version the host reads them out or shows them on cards.

4. Bid up or pass

   You take turns raising the bid until one player passes. The other player pays their last bid and takes the item. In the muted variant nobody talks: you point at the item to take it, or hand it over.

5. Max 5 items each

   Spend wisely. With 5 items or 0 coins left you are out of the bidding, and the rest goes to your opponent for whatever they bid.

6. Compare and judge

   Both lists side by side. In the app you also get an AI image of each player's result, so the table (or the comment section) can vote on the winner.

Tips to win the $20 draft

• Let your opponent overpay for the boring stuff. The pool always goes for 7 or more; the greenhouse goes for 1.
• Count the items left. With 3 items to go and 6 coins, your opponent can only win one bidding war.
• Two big items beat five small ones when the comment section votes.
• Play the same category twice with roles reversed: the second round is where people learn to bluff.
